Jenn Shifflet

Artist Biography

Jenn Shifflet is a multimedia artist creating light-centered dreamscapes exploring fleeting moments of luminosity, the sacred feminine, and reverence for the natural world. Shifflet is interested in themes of interconnection, alchemical transformation, ecofeminism, and the meeting place between inner and outer landscapes. Ethereal sky phenomena such as: sky gradients seen on her daily walks at dusk, sunlight filtering through the trees in her garden, rainbows, sun auras, and moonbows are often the subjects of her work.

As an artist and someone who has had a meditation practice for more than 30 years, Shifflet is interested in the intersection of art, nature and the spiritual. This has led her to choose working with light as both a symbol and a medium to explore our deeper nature and illuminate the unseen. Shifflet works with transparent, reflective, and luminous materials, whether it’s the metallic and iridescent pigments in her paintings and work on paper, or the mirrors and glass reflecting light and color in her kiln glass work. Perception also plays a role in her work as the viewer gets momentary filtered glimpses of themselves, and the experience of each piece is affected by the light of its surrounding environment. 

Given that we live in a fast-paced era of disconnection from the larger rhythms and wisdom of nature, Shifflet aims to create work that invites the viewer to pause and experience the subtle interplay between inner reflection and the expansive beauty of the natural world.
