K. Imperial Fine Art is excited to present Shape of the Sky, a new exhibition featuring the prismatic creations of Andrea Myers and Danielle Riede. The artists take two very different, yet complementary, routs to arrive at a shared aesthetic of vivid palettes and vibrant forms. The exhibit is on view from September 22 nd – October 31 st, 2026. The artists and gallery welcome the public to an opening reception on Saturday, September 26 th from 3-5 pm.

Jewel-bright tones and a mutli-faceted repetition of line and shape are found consistently throughout the two bodies of work. While the immediate impact of color and form make for a cohesive exhibition, it is the differences in material and narratives that make for an engaging one. Both bodies of work call to mind the movement of water –be it a pulsing surge or a lapping wave. Myers’ sewn textile collages undulate both visually through the sequence of swatches and literally in the way her soft fabric drapes and pulls. The patterns and the rippling tell a story of surges and swells. Meanwhile, Riede’s oscillating bands of color speak to slow geological processes; the buildup of mineral deposits along a riverbank or the incremental crystal growth in the formation of a geode. Her chosen materials of oil paint pulled through and seeping into a matte gesso ground furthers the narrative of sedimentary layers bearing witness to water’s passage.

Riotous fabric compositions by Ohio artist Andrea Myers are an amalgamation of the language of colorfield painting combined with a gestural and a bit rebellious approach to quilt making. Myers describes her process as “Quick collage cutting of fabrics and haphazard machine-sewn stitching that resembles drawn lines fuse technicolor swatches into an incremental immersive whole, envelop and embed the viewer in a soft emotive setting.” Myers received her BFA in Printmedia in 2002 and MFA in Fiber and Material Studies in 2006 both from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her work has been exhibited widely including the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, Toledo Museum of Art, Art Miami, Fiber Arts International, the Columbus Museum of Art, Akron Art Museum, the Textil und Rennsportmuseum in Hohenstein-Ernstthal, Germany and a solo exhibition, “Color Fields” at the Springfield Museum of Art in Springfield, OH.

Danielle Riede grew up in the United States and Iceland and resides now in Indianapolis, IN. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art from the University of Virginia, her Master of Fine Arts in Painting from Virginia Commonwealth University, and also studied with Daniel Buren at the Kunstakademie Duesseldorf. Her international exhibition record includes galleries and museums in Mexico City, Athens, Berlin, and New York, among others. Riede’s paintings in Shape of Sky all hail from her dance-inspired Wingspan series. She begins with an intuitive physical movement off of the canvas then records that same movement in paint. Her gestures morph as she moves across the surface and her imagery unfolds: vibrating strata rife with chromatic aberration.
